An introduction to new-wave South African white wines

Tue 15 March 22,  7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Tuesday 15th March 2022, 7.15pm

Tutored by John Hoskins MW

“Introduction to wine: tastings are themed around grape varieties or regions. The format is informal, suitable for anyone with an interest in wine who might want to get a bit more understanding of the subject. They are tutored by John Hoskins, Master of Wine and owner of the hotel. We taste for about an hour and a half (8+ wines from the everyday to the very best). Then there’s an informal supper – 2 courses, a couple of glasses of wine, coffee.

South Africa is quite clearly leading the world in innovative white wine styles. Often based on old vine Chenin Blanc, either ‘pure’ or mixed with various lesser-known varieties. But there are also classy examples of oak-matured Sauvignon, Orange wines and of course some (less innovative but still exciting) Chardonnays.

We will include some top examples of these styles, including producers like Alheit (for Cartology), Miles Mossop and Thorne & Daughters.

Introduction tastings are £49.50.  To book ring the wine shop 01480 458410.

Payment in full is required at time of booking. Tickets are not refundable.

£30 discount on b&b booked with wine events.

Please let us know of any dietary issues when booking.

We will sit on tables of 8, so you will not be distanced from others on that table.
